Women's Basketball Breezes Past Doane By 21

Freshman Ann Bose drilled a three just eight seconds into the game and Hastings took an 8-2 lead shortly after on a three-pointer by senior Macy Bryant. Leading 8-5, sophomores Josilyn Miller and McKenna Yates hit from deep to go up nine at the 5:49 mark. At 14-9, Hastings closed the quarter on a 15-0 run to take a 29-9 lead, capped by a Yates layup.
Junior Bailey Kissinger scored six of Hastings' first eight points of the second quarter, as Hastings took a 37-13 lead at the 7:17 mark. Doane inched closer over the next few minutes, getting within 21 halfway through the second. After a basket by senior Mariyah Avila and a 4-0 run by Doane, Bryant drained another three to go up 46-24. Avila scored on an up-and-under move in the final minute of the half to take a 48-26 halftime lead.
Kissinger and Avila scored early in the third quarter and while Doane got within 20 at the 5:46 mark, Yates and Miller put the Broncos back up 24. Bose drilled a three to take a 61-35 lead and Kissinger answered Doane's free throws with a layup. A three in the final minute of the quarter by Kissinger kept the Broncos ahead 66-41 after three.
Doane scored six of the first eight points of the fourth. Free throws by Yates kept the lead over 20 and sophomore Adyson Mlnarik put them back up 24 at the 6:54 mark. A three by Bose made it 77-52, then after freshman Dalia Durant came off the bench and scored on a second-chance layup, freshman Catelynn Bargen completed a three-point play to put the finishing touches on the 83-62 win.
Both teams were held to below 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from three. Hastings forced 26 turnovers, scoring 20 points off of them, and outrebounded the Tigers, 50-48. Yates had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists and four steals. Kissinger contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while Bose had 15 points, three rebounds, and five steals.
Up next, Hastings will host #11 Concordia for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2pm. The winner will receive the #3-seed in the GPAC tournament.
