Women's Track and Field Have Strong Performances in Wichita and Seward
(Wichita, KS & Seward, NE) - The women’s track and field team went to Friends University to compete at the Friends University Spring Invitational Wednesday through Friday, as well as to the Concordia Invite to compete on Saturday.
(Wichita, KS & Seward, NE) - The women's track and field team went to Friends University to compete at the Friends University Spring Invitational Wednesday through Friday, as well as to the Concordia Invite to compete on Saturday.
On Wednesday, junior Jaida Rowe placed first in the 400m hurdles with a B-Standard time of 1:02.33. Freshman Ava Reese placed eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:16.76. Kamerin Turner placed 14th in the women's 400m race with a time of 1:05.72. In the women's 800m race, senior Cynthia Chaparro-Belloc placed 19th with a time of 2:36.85.
On Thursday in the outdoor heptathlon overall, freshman Lucy Carey placed third with a mark of 3914. Carey placed second in the outdoor heptathlon 100m hurdles with a time of 16.08 and placed fourth in the high jump, jumping 1.45m. She placed third in the heptathlon shot put with a mark of 9.00m and placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 27.59.
On Friday in the outdoor heptathlon long jump, Carey placed third with a mark of 4.91m. In the heptathlon javelin throw, she placed fourth with a throw of 23.90m and placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:36.09.
At Concordia in the 5000m race walk, junior Ava Brackhan placed first with a time of 33:16.57. Also, placing in the event was freshman Destini Johnson, who claimed second with 34:26.25
In the women's hammer throw junior Kylee Hasselmann got fifth place with a throw of 42.76m. In the long jump, freshman Kamerin Turner placed ninth with a jump of 4.89m. Junior Trinity Doublin also placed 15th in the event with 4.58m. Doublin placed eighth in the triple jump as well with a jump of 10.25m.
In the 800m, senior Cecilia Velarde placed eighth with 2:33.25. In the 1500m, sophomore Whitney Cure placed ninth with a time of 5:34.69.
In the high jump junior Melissa Hines placed 11th with a leap of 1.41m. In the discus, freshman Ellie Lloyd placed 14th with a throw of 31.30m. Lloyd also placed 7th in the javelin throw with a throw of 31.27m. Also placing in the event was Turner with 26.09m.
The Lady Broncos head to Crete, NE to participate in the Doane Outdoor Invite on Tuesday, April 8 at 12pm.
