Hastings did hold a couple of one-point leads early in the contest. After a three-pointer by Dordt to begin the game, sophomore David Hageman drilled a jumper and a steal by junior Christian Pujals turned into a layup for junior DaRon Hall, who scored 30 in their last game on Wednesday, to go up 4-3. Dordt capitalized on a foul with two free throws, but Hastings re-took the lead at 6-5 with a two from Hall.
From there, Dordt would take the game over by going on a 12-2 run. Freshman Maverick Binder stepped up and put one in from downtown, but Dordt forced a Hastings timeout after a quick three-point response to go up 20-11 with 10:56 left in the half.
Threes by Hall and Hageman later cut the lead to five at the eight-minute mark, but a 15-4 run over the next four minutes gave Dordt the cushion they needed at 41-25. Baskets from Hall and junior Myles Simon kept the lead from growing much more the rest of half, as Doane took a 52-35 lead to the locker room at half by shooting 62 percent from the field and outrebounded Hastings 20-8 through 20 minutes.
