Red Raiders Defeat Broncos on Senior Day
(Hastings, NE) – The men’s basketball team faced off against the #13 Northwestern Red Raiders on Senior Day. They trailed by just five near the end of the first half, but Northwestern took off from there with a 112-79 defeat.

Both teams scored via the three-ball for their opening points, then junior DaRon Hall gave Hastings a brief 6-5 lead on a second three. Trailing 11-9, sophomore Ben Boudreau drilled a triple and fellow sophomore Hunter Hill scored inside to go up three. After a Northwestern three, freshman Maverick Binder made a shot and Boudreau put in his second three of the game, taking a 19-14 lead at the 12:10 mark.
The Red Raiders responded with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Boudreau stopped the run with an elbow jumper and freshman Eli Podoll exploded to the rim for the layup to get within one with eight minutes left in the half, but Northwestern countered with a 10-0 run. Hall got into the lane to score on an old-fashioned three-point play with 4:30 left to make it 34-26.
Northwestern continued their strong play on the offensive end with a three and a second-chance basket. Hall and Binder hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions and Hall drove inside for a layup, cutting the lead to five with two-and-a-half to go, but the Red Raiders closed the half on an 11-2 run to go up 50-36 at intermission.
While Hastings shot 41 percent from the field and 40 percent from three, Northwestern shot 60 percent overall and 54 percent from deep. Hall had 13 points to lead Hastings through the first 20 minutes.
The second half started well for the Red Raiders. After Hastings scored the first basket, they scored the next 17 points in the next four minutes. Hill ended the run with a basket inside and Binder got the lead down to 24 with a three before the Red Raiders had a quick 8-0 spurt to go up 75-43 with 14:11 left.
Hill provided some good energy, scoring the next six Hastings points, including four from the line, as Northwestern drove the lead to 41 with 11:14 left. Sophomore David Hageman later scored nine quick points to make it 101-61, ending at the 5:02 mark. Northwestern eventually won the game, 112-79.
Northwestern shot 68 percent for the game and held Hastings to 39 percent and outrebounding the Broncos, 39-32. Binder led Hastings with 24 points with five threes, along with three rebounds. Hageman had 14 points and three rebounds, and Hall had 13 points. Off the bench, Boudreau and Hill each contributed 10 points.
