Men's Bowling Beats Wichita State to Win Bracket Play in Jayhawk Challenge
(Wichita, KS) – The men’s bowling team continued their Kansas trip at the Jayhawk Challenge in Topeka, and after finishing sixth out of 17 teams to qualify for the bracket play, the Broncos came from behind in all three rounds, including top-ranked Wichita State in the final, to win the event.

In bracket play on Sunday, Hastings trailed 2-1 to Lindenwood. The Broncos won game four, 221-166, and gave five, 206-199. In the semifinals against Drury, Hastings lost the first two games, then staved off elimination with a 181-all tie in game three. Hastings won the next two games to force a sixth game for the tiebreak, winning 170-158, to advance to the final against Wichita State.
The Shockers won the first two games, 166-150 and 200-172. From there it was all Broncos, beginning with a 220-188 third game and a 198-163 fourth game. In the deciding game of the championship, the Broncos cruised to a win by 62 pins, 221-159.
On Saturday, junior Anthony Morella finished eighth amongst all of the individuals competing with a total of 1066 in his five games. He had an average of 213.2 and had four games of over 200, his best being 226 in game one. Junior Kaden Kuusela placed 22nd with a total pin count of 1022 and a 204.4 average. Three of his five games were over 200, including a 225 in game three.
Sophomore Jimmie Bradley finished 34th with a total of 990 pins and an average of 198 in five games, which included a 236 in game three. Junior Ethan Lester took 126th with a total of 773 and an average of 193.3 in his four games.
Sophomore Colin Jaster took 190th with a pin count of 387, averaging 193.5 in his two games. Sophomore Bladyn Hogan placed 194th with a total of 370 and an average of 185 in his two games. Sophomore Alec Sundberg placed 207th with a total of 315 pins and an average of 157.5 in his two games.
Up next, Hastings will compete at their home invite on November 1-2 at Pastime Lanes. Saturday will be the Mike Munsterman Memorial and Sunday will be the Donna Hogan Memorial.
