Salter Breaks Meet Record in 800m, Wise Qualifies for Nationals in 3000m Race Walk
(Seward, NE) – The men’s indoor track and field team competed at the Concordia Polar Dog Invite on Friday, with junior Sam Wise qualifying for Nationals in the 3000m race walk.
(Seward, NE) – The men's indoor track and field team competed at the Concordia Polar Dog Invite on Friday, with junior Sam Wise qualifying for Nationals in the 3000m race walk.
Wise qualified for Nationals in the 3000m race walk by taking second place with a B-Standard time of 15:47.83. The Broncos dominated the 800m run with junior Tyler Salter setting a meet and personal record with a time of 1:55.54, just short of the B-Standard mark. Freshman Evan Struss was right behind him in second place, running the race at a 1:58.70 clip.
Also in the 800m, junior Deshawn Burks took seventh (2:04.27), freshman Parker Graves was eighth (2:05.60), senior Tatum Jelleberg finished tenth (2:07.12), and junior Derek Trompke placed 19th (2:14.43).
Later on in the 5000m run, Jelleberg placed ninth with a time of 16:41.14. In the 400m run, sophomore Zane Eggleston placed eighth with a time of 53.47 and freshman Tyler March was 14th (59.65).
Freshman Rayne Chavez-Major qualified for the finals of the 60m dash, clocking in at 7.21 in the prelims for sixth, then took seventh in the finals (7.21), just behind Concordia. He later placed 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 23.49. Also in the 200m, sophomore Noah Hudnall finished 13th (23.56) and freshman Adrian Lobeda was 17th (24.75).
Hastings competed in the 4x400m relay with a group of Salter, Burks, Struss, and Graves. The group took third out of four teams with a time of 3:31.96.
Chavez-Major also competed in the long jump, earning third place with a top jump of 21'10.25". Also in the long jump, freshman Spencer Hille took ninth (20'07.75"), fellow freshman Cody Defeo was 10th (20'06.25"), and junior Chance Elwood placed 15th (19'08.75").
Sophomore Rafer Severson took part in the pole vault, with a top attempt of 12'05.50" to take fourth. Hille later took fourth in the high jump with a top leap of 6'04.00" and Severson was 11th at 5'10.00". Also in the high jump, Elwood was 12th (5'06.00").
In the weight throw, senior Payton Lane was 14th with a throw of 48'04.00" and junior Edward Pallotto placed 23rd with a throw of 43'05.25". Also competing in the weight throw, sophomore Titus Glanz finished at 29th (40'06.75"), while freshman Trey Parriott took 33rd (37'10.00").
Senior Evan Morara was the top placer for the Broncos at 13 in the shot put with a throw of 43'11.75". Freshman Jorge Vazquez was 18th (41'07.25"), freshman Trey Parriott finished 19th (41'04.50"), and Glanz placed 26th (39'03.25") in the event.
Up next, Hastings will return to Seward, NE on Saturday, Jan. 25 to compete in the Concordia Classic at 12pm.
