O'Connor Leads Men's Wrestling at Conner/Oppenheim Open
Crete, NE – The Hastings College men’s wrestling team competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Open and here are the results from the weekend.
Crete, NE – The Hastings College men's wrestling team competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Open and here are the results from the weekend.
At 125 Jordan O'Connor began his day by defeating Aidan Throwbridge of Concordia via an 11-0 major decision. Up next was Nicholas Foley of Friends where he pinned him just 2:43 into the match. He advance to the quarterfinals where he defeated Nehemiah Ventura of Texas Wesleyan via pin at the 4:18 mark. He then lost to Saoul Prado of Baker to move into the consolation bracket where he met Isaac Gibbs of Indian Hills where he defeated Gibbs due to a forfeit and then pinned John Davis of Missouri Baptist to take third place overall.
At 149 Nicholas Freeland dropped his first match but bounced back to win four straight in the consolation bracket before getting bounced right before the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Jack Morton won his first two matches before exiting the tournament.
At 174 Naim Abualjubain started his day with a 14-5 major decision over Nick Keim of Missouri Baptist. He then defeated Tanner VanScoy of Saint Mary via a 19-6 Major Decision to move to the quarterfinals. There he defeated Bradlee Shaw of Dickinson State via a 15-6 major decision before losing to Isaac White of Southeast CC in the semifinals. After defeating Matthan Mason via an 11-3 major decision before falling to Will Cox of Grand View to bring home fourth place.
Others that won matches were Jake Patterson (Was the lone Bronco to not wrestle in the Amateur Bracket), Sebastian Macedo, Braydon Forehand, Trevor Leon and Matheson Rodriquez.
The Broncos will be back in action Dec. 7 hitting the road to take on Midland in a dual with the first match set to begin at 7:00 pm in Fremont, NE.
