Men's Wrestling Has Four Wrestlers Finish in Top 5 at GPAC
Seward, NE – The Hastings College men’s wrestling team took part in the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament and brought home one fourth place finish, three fifth place finishes this past weekend.
Seward, NE – The Hastings College men's wrestling team took part in the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament and brought home one fourth place finish, three fifth place finishes this past weekend.
At 149, Jack Morton would drop his first match to Ethan Krey of Briar Cliff to move into the consolation bracket. There he met up with teammate Nicholas Freeland where he won 14-4 to move to the consolation semifinals. Morton defeated Hunter Steffans of Morningside 13-4 to advance to the third place match where he would claim fourth place after losing to Tommy Beringer of Jamestown.
Justin Rodriguez began his tournament at 125 against Will Farren of Dakota Wesleyan where he pinned him at the 2:26 mark. In the quarterfinals he would lose to runner up Gabe Grice of Morningside to move into the consolation bracket. There he first met up with Bryson Bussinger of Concordia where he picked up a 10-4 decision to advance. There he faced Elijah Barajas of Jamestown where he won 9-2 to move onto the consolation semifinals. Dante Rigal of Briar Cliff would defeat him via pin to push Rodriguez into the fifth place match. There he took on Sean Heeney of Northwestern where he would pin him at the 6:38 mark to claim fifth place.
Jake Patterson began his tournament at 157 by defeating Jeaven Scdoris of Concordia 12-3 to move into the semifinals where he would lose to Noah Styskal of Morningside which also moved him into the consolation bracket. Patterson would get beaten by Ben Peters of BCU to move into the fifth place match where he defeated Tyler Fouts of BCU via pin at the :56 mark to claim fifth place.
At 174, Naim Abualjubain began his tournament with a loss to Alex vandyke of Morningside to move into the consolation bracket. He would defeat Stephen Duffey of Concordia via pin before losing in the consolation semifinal to Lane Miller of Dakota Wesleyan. This also moved him into the fifth place match where he would pin Jackson Chapin of Morningside to claim fifth place.
Patterson and Morton have qualified for the at large pool but will have to wait until Wednesday to see if they have picked up an at large bid to nationals.
