Women's Wrestling Knocks off Ottawa and York in Final Home Event
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s wrestling team had its final home event of the year and went out on top by defeating Ottawa 29-16 before running past York 43-5 on Tuesday afternoon inside Kiewit Gymnasium.

After going up 5-0 with a forfeit at 101, Candice Brickell would eventually get Evelin Geronimo on her back pinning her at the 1:54 mark at 109. One of the more exciting matches was at 116 where Lilly Gomez had a tough task against Olivia O'Donnell but would get a late take down and then held on for the 5-4 victory.
At 123, Larissa Kaz continued to get take downs of Macey Gross and eventually won by a 12-2 tech fall. Brianna Miller was going back-and-forth with Mikinlee Smith before she slammed her on her back earning the pin at the 4:15 mark as the Lady Bronco lead grew to 19-3. Tabitha Wood then dominated Derriane Morrison at 136 pinning her just :48 into the match. Kaydince Turner would pick up the final win of the match by making very quick work over Abigail Sebesta by pinning her just :32 into the match. Hastings went on to win 29-16.
York came in with a small roster and had no chance against the Lady Broncos dropping the match 43-5. Bemnet Tesfa, Kaz, Wood and Alondra Becerra all won by pin while Lisa Hoeflich and Brickell won by tech fall in the win.
Hastings will be back in action Sunday Feb. 12 hitting the road to take part in the Warrior Open hosted by Midland University beginning at 9:00 am.
