(Hastings, Nebraska) – Making their season debut as the preseason pick to win the GPAC, the Hastings Broncos rallied to force a 1-1 draw against the Graceland Yellowjackets.
Graceland got the lone goal of the first half in the third minute on a long, looping kick that took a tricky hop in front of the Hastings goal and bounced just over the outstretched arms of Hastings goalkeeper Jackson Pedersen for a 1-0 lead.
Hastings had plenty of scoring opportunities, with 11 shot attempts, compared to just the one shot from Graceland. Senior Dekota Schubert had four shot attempts in the first half, including a header that nearly found the net. Senior Grace Henry led the Broncos in shots on goal with two in the first half.
The Broncos continued to fire away in the second half, finally connecting on their 24th shot as Schubert tied the game at one in the 84th minute. Hastings had a shot to win it, as Jesse Chartier had her shot covered up by the Yellowjacket goalkeeper.
Hastings had 25 shots to Graceland's one, including 12 shots on goal. Schubert took nine of Hastings shot attempts, Henry had four, and senior Dulce Lopez had three.
