Second Half Surge Lifts Men's Basketball Past Midland
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men’s basketball team got a much needed win on Wednesday night defeating Midland 80-60 inside Lynn Farrell Arena. Mathematically the Broncos are still alive for a spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament but they will need to win on Saturday and have Doane defeat Briar Cliff to secure the No. 8 seed.

Mathematically the Broncos are still alive for a spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament but they will need to win on Saturday and have Doane defeat Briar Cliff to secure the No. 8 seed.
The teams both battled tough in the first half as Hastings emerged with a slim 35-32 victory heading into the second half. Grady Corrigan had a great first half scoring 15 of his 17 points.
The Broncos wasted little time gaining the momentum in the second half as Haydent Grint started things off by scoring from the low block. Then Evan Kingston drained a three prompting a Midland timeout as HC now led 40-32. After forcing a turnover, Reggie Thomas would make his presence felt with a tough layup as Hastings now led 42-32 with 17:26 to go in the game.
After the Warriors got a free throw, Kingston drained another three followed by two Grint free throws as the lead grew to 14. After the teams traded a few baskets, Thomas really took charge getting back-to-back and-ones pushing the lead to 55-37 as Midland was forced to call another timeout. Hastings eventually built the lead to as many as 24 while the Warriors could only get to within 12 once the rest of the way.
Thomas led the way with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting while going 5-for-6 from the line. Corrigan added 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Grint finished with 12 points while Phil Cisrow finished with another double-double as he scored 10 points while pulling down 11 boards. Grint just missed out on his first career double-double with nine boards. Kingston finished with a season high 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting from downtown.
The Broncos shot absolutely lights out shooting 66.7 percent (30-for-45) while Midland finished the game shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58). Rebounding was in favor of Hastings 36-to-25 while the Broncos dished out 22 assists compared to just 10 for the Warriors.
Hastings improves to 14-13 (7-12) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Feb. 18 as Northwestern comes to town with tipoff set for 3:45 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
