Women's Tennis Hosts Bronco Invite to Wrap Up Fall Season
(Hastings, NE) – The Bronco women’s tennis team wrapped up their fall season competing in their home invite on Friday and Saturday, featuring two other teams.
(Hastings, NE) – The Bronco women's tennis team wrapped up their fall season competing in their home invite on Friday and Saturday, featuring two other teams.
In the doubles bracket, juniors Josline Carter and Victoria Harris won 6-3 in the quarterfinals over Doane, then won 6-3 over junior teammate Abby Harveson, who teamed up with a player from College of Saint Mary, before losing 6-3 to Doane in the final. Harveson's team had advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1 win over Doane.
Also in the doubles bracket, sophomores Lexi Benson and Cara Ansbach lost 6-4 in their first match to College of Saint Mary. They later picked up a 6-4 win over the Hastings doubles team of senior Paige Willcoxon and sophomore Kayleigh Cetak, who had lost their opener, 6-3, to College of Saint Mary. Benson and Ansbach later fell 7-6(6) to Doane in the consolation final. Sophomores Mia Short and Sophia Short lost 6-2 to Doane, then lost 6-0 to Doane in their consolation match.
In the 'A' singles bracket, Carter won 8-2 in her opening match against Doane, then lost 8-1 in the semifinals to another Doane opponent. Harris picked up an 8-7(1) win over College of Saint Mary before falling in the semifinals to Doane, 8-0. Willcoxon won her opening match, 8-6, over College of Saint Mary, then fell 8-0 to Doane.
In the 'B' singles bracket, Benson received a first round bye before winning 8-1 over Doane. She won her semifinal match 8-4 over a second Tiger, then completed the sweep of Doane with a 6-3, 7-5 win in the best-of-three set final. Ansbach also received a first round bye and won her first match, 8-4, over the Flames, then lost 8-2 to Doane in the semifinals.
Also in the 'B' singles bracket, Harveson lost her first match, 8-6, but picked up an 8-0 win over teammate M. Short, who lost her opener to the Flames. Harveson advanced to the consolation final after a 8-4 win over College of Saint Mary in the consolation semifinals, falling 8-3 in the third-place match. Rounding out the singles results, Cetak split her two matches against Doane, while S. Short lost both matches to Doane.
Up next, the Broncos are scheduled to begin their spring season on Friday, Feb. 6 at home against Sterling.
