Women's Tennis Cruises to 6-1 Win at Mount Marty
(Yankton, SD) – The women’s tennis team added another win to the season, getting a 6-1 win over Mount Marty by sweeping doubles and winning five singles matches.
(Yankton, SD) – The women's tennis team added another win to the season, getting a 6-1 win over Mount Marty by sweeping doubles and winning five singles matches.
Senior Paige Willcoxon and sophomore Kayleigh Cetak won #3 doubles by forfeit, as Mount Marty played the match with only five players. Hastings gained control of the other two doubles matches by leading 3-0 at #1 and #2 doubles. Juniors Josline Carter and Victoria Harris won 6-2 at #1 doubles, while sophomores Cara Ansbach and Lexi Benson won 6-4 at #2 doubles, putting the Broncos up 1-0 after doubles.
Cetak won by forfeit at #6 singles, then Carter and Harris won easily at #1 and #2 singles, with Carter winning 6-2, 6-0 and Harris winning 6-1, 6-2. Ansbach raced to a 6-1 first set win at #4 singles, then after falling 6-4 in the second set, she dominated the third set super-tiebreak, 10-2, putting Hastings up 5-0.
Willcoxon lost a close first set in an 8-6 tiebreak at #3 singles, then lost 6-1 in the second set, as Mount Marty got their lone point of the match. Playing at #5 singles, Benson picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory to secure the 6-1 win.
Up next, Hastings will host College of Saint Mary on Tuesday, Apr. 14 at 4pm.
