In the open bracket, sophomore Jordan Tobias led 9-1 before pinning Missouri Baptist in his first match at 157 less than three-and-a-half minutes in. He lost a 16-7 major decision to University of Saint Mary, then lost a 15-5 major decision to Texas Wesleyan in his lone consolation match.
At 125, junior Creel Weber got a nearfall in the closing seconds of the second period to take a 8-3 lead over Dakota Wesleyan and held on to win in a close 8-7 decision. He lost by tech fall to Doane in his next match and was pinned by Grand View in his first consolation match.
In the amateur bracket, sophomore Aiden Griffin lost by fall in his first match to Midland at 197, but picked up two wins on the consolation side. He won an 11-0 major decision over Wayland Baptist and pinned a second Wayland Baptist opponent at the 3:20 mark in his next bout. Griffin ended with a loss by fall to Cloud County Community College.
At 133, freshman James Vaskin lost his opener on a pin against Westcliff, then he got a pin win of his own in his first consolation match over Waldorf at the 2:50 mark. Vaskin finished with a tech fall loss to University of Saint Mary.
Up next, Hastings will have a dual at Midland on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7pm in their final event before winter break.
