Softball Loses to Park and MidAmerica Nazarene
(Shawnee, KS) – The softball team took on Park and MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, losing 10-3 to Park and 5-2 to MidAmerica Nazarene.

(Shawnee, KS) – The softball team took on Park and MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, losing 10-3 to Park and 5-2 to MidAmerica Nazarene.
Park hit two home runs in the first four batters of the game to take an early 3-0 lead. Junior Kaylee Pinneo doubled with out after a single by sophomore Sofia Carroll, who scored on an RBI groundout by senior Lauren Lee to get within two at 3-1.
The Pirates scored two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Hastings got one run back in the fourth on a two-out single by senior Sam Skinner to score senior Ana Medeiros. Both teams scored a run in the sixth, with the Pirates scoring on a two-out RBI single and senior Lexie Mudloff going yard for the Broncos, making it 6-3.
Park broke the game open in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs in the inning in what became a 10-3 win after Hastings came up empty in the bottom of the inning.
Mudloff was 2-3 at the plate with the home run and Pinneo was 2-3 with a walk. Senior pitcher Kiera Brack pitched five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out three.
In game two, Kappler hit two solo home runs - one in the third and another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.
MidAmerica Nazarene came back with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth to go up 3-2, including the last two runs on a home run. The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth, coming on a one-out double that was followed by a two-out RBI-single and RBI-double to expand the lead to three for a 5-2 final.
Hastings was held to one hit outside of the two Kappler home runs, coming on a single by freshman Jenna McClain in the second inning. Sophomore Dani Sitts threw 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out three.
Up next, Hastings will take part in the Space Coast Spring Games on Mar. 5-8, taking on Huntington at 3:45pm on Mar. 5, following an exhibition game against the Czech Republic.
