Pinneo Drives in 5 Runs in Game 2 Win at Doane
(Crete, NE) – Taking on Doane in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Crete, Doane broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth with five runs to win 9-4 in game one, then scored in every inning of game two to win, 16-9.

The Broncos got the scoring going in the second inning of game one, as senior Lauren Lee led off with a single and after a double by junior Kaylee Pinneo led her to third, senior Ana Medeiros brought Lee and Pinneo home with an two-run RBI-single to right-center field to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, a bunt single to start the bottom half of the inning turned into Doane's first run of the game, scoring on a double play with runners on the corners. The Tigers took the lead in the fourth with a one-out, two-run RBI triple and went up 4-2 on a bunt single in the next at-bat.
The first three Hastings batters reached to load the bases in the sixth inning and Pinneo drove in senior Lexie Mudloff and sophomore Sofia Carroll to tie the game at four. After back-to-back fielder's choice outs, the Broncos loaded the bases again, but the Tigers got out of the inning with a ground ball to second.
Doane responded in the next half inning with a one-out home run to left, then after a Bronco throwing error in the next at-bat, they hit three consecutive RBI-doubles, followed by an RBI-single to make it a 9-4 final.
Pinneo was 2-3 with a double, a run, and two RBIs. Medeiros was 2-3 with two RBIs in game one.
In game two, Carroll and Lee walked in their first at-bats and Pinneo crushed a three-run home run to deep left-center field to go up 3-0. Doane got two runs in their half of the first on a two run home run, as Hastings led 3-2 after one.
Senior Katyn Kappler began the second inning with a home run on the third pitch of the inning. Carroll walked again and with two outs, Pinneo drove in another run and Medeiros followed her up with a double to center, scoring Pinneo to go up 6-2. Doane cut the lead to two with two runs in the second.
Kappler and Carroll started the second with singles and Kappler scored on a Tiger error. Lee's double came right after the error, scoring Carroll from third to take an 8-4 lead.
In the fourth, freshman Raygan Hoos tacked on a run on a sac fly, scoring pinch-running freshman Charleigh Mellish. Pinneo got her fifth RBI of the game with a sac fly coming on a lineout to go up 10-4, scoring Carroll, who had reached on a single to start the inning.
Hastings exploded for five runs in the sixth, as Carroll knocked in the first two runs on a one-out two-run RBI-single, then Mudloff hit a two-run RBI-double. Lee singled up the middle to score Mudloff and put the Broncos up 15-4.
Doane avoided the run-rule by scoring five runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh inning after senior Sam Skinner singled and sophomore Graecy Graf hit a double, Hoos brought in Skinner to take a 16-9 lead. Senior Bailey Schmit came in for the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning to end the game.
Carroll went 3-4 with two walks, scoring four runs and driving in two more. Pinneo was 2-5 with a home run and five RBI, scoring two runs. Lee, Medeiros, Kappler all recorded two hits, as did Skinner, Graf and Hoos. Sophomore pitcher Dani Sitts got the win, pitching six innings and striking out two batters.
Up next, Hastings will host Dordt on Friday, Mar. 27 at 4 and 6pm.
