Softball Wins Both Games on Day 2 in Florida
(Melbourne, FL) – Hastings began with a 3-2 walkoff win against Spring Arbor by scoring two runs in the eighth capped by an RBI-single by junior Kaylee Pinneo. They also won game two over Hannibal-LaGrange, 5-1, in a game that they led the whole way.

Spring Arbor took the lead in the third inning, as a leadoff bunt single turned into an RBI-double three batters later. Hasting answered back in the bottom half of the inning, getting a leadoff single by senior Katyn Kappler and after she advanced to second on a groundout, senior Lexie Mudloff, who went 2-4 in game one, doubled to right to score her and tie the game at one.
No more scoring occurred until the eighth inning, as sophomore Kassidy Beavers gave up only one run on five hits through the first seven innings. With a ghost runner on second to begin the eighth, Spring Arbor went up 2-1 on a one-out single up the middle.
In the bottom of the eighth, sophomore Sofia Carroll was the ghost runner for the Broncos and she scored on a one-out pinch-hit single by junior Maggie McClain. McClain moved up to second on the throw and after a strikeout, Pinneo hit a line drive single to left field to score the winning run for the 3-2 victory.
Against Hannibal LaGrange, Carroll got on with an infield single in the first and in her first at-bat after the walkoff, Pinneo homered to give Hastings a 2-0 lead. Hannibal-LaGrange answered with a two-out run in the bottom of the first, making it 2-1.
In the fifth inning, Carroll got on again, this time on a double to center. Mudloff then singled, moving Carroll to third. The Trojans picked off Carroll at third, but Mudloff moved into scoring position on the play, stealing second. On the next pitch, Pinneo doubled in Mudloff to put them up 3-1.
Hastings added to their lead in the seventh, as they turned a one-out single by Kappler into an RBI-double by Mudloff and in the next at-bat, Pinneo drove in her fourth run on an RBI-single to center field.
Sophomore pitched Dani Sitts got the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing only one run five hits and striking out four. Pinneo was 3-4 in game two with a home run and a double, contributing four RBIs and a run scored. Mudloff was 2-4 with her RBI-double and two runs scored. Carroll, who started the first two scoring innings with hits, was 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Up next, Hastings will play Aquinas and Defiance at 9am and 1:30pm on Sunday, Mar. 8 in Melbourne to conclude their Space Coast Games.
