Broncos Run Past Flames, Win 95-53

Much like the first meeting between the two teams, Hastings controlled the game from the start by leading 30-9 after the first quarter. The Broncos went up 7-2 in the first minute of action that included a three-pointer from junior Mariyah Avila. Leading 10-5, Hastings went on an 11-0 run with five points from junior Macy Bryant and threes from Avila and senior Alyssa Baker to make it 21-5 with 4:07 left in the first quarter.
Hastings closed the opening quarter on a 9-2 run as Baker scored five points off of another three and a layup, giving Hastings a 21-point lead after one. Bryant led the team with 10 points and three rebounds in the quarter.
The Flames came out hot in the second quarter, scoring eight of the first 12 points to cut the lead to 17 at the 7:07 mark. Bryant splashed home a three and Goodon scored five straight points, including three from the foul line, to extend the lead to 42-19. Saint Mary countered with a 6-1 run to get within 18 with 2:19 left in the quarter.
The final 2:06 of the quarter belonged to the Broncos as they went on a 10-0 to close the half. Bryant scored inside and drew the foul to get the three-point play, then after a quick defensive stop, Avila knocked down a three. Later in the run, freshman Mikah O'Neill put back her own miss and Avila capped the run with a jumper to put Hastings up 53-25 at halftime.
For the half, Hastings shot 46 percent from the field and were 8-17 from beyond the arc for 47 percent. They forced the Flames into 11 first half turnovers and 32 percent shooting. Bryant was a perfect 8-8 from the field with three triples in a 20-point, 5-rebound half. Avila also contributed double-figure scoring with 11 points.
Avila continued to build the lead with five points for Hastings to open the second half, including her fourth three as the Broncos opened the third quarter on a 15-2 run. Sophomore Rachel Goodon contributed four points and a block, while freshman McKenna Yates concluded the run with a steal and layup to make it 68-27 with 5:51 left in the third.
Leading 70-37 with 2:09 left, Hastings again closed the quarter strong with a 10-1 run. Freshman Ann Bose finished inside and drilled a three, then after a Flame free throw, freshman Jentri Marx scored down low and senior Kiernan Paulk connected on a three-pointer to make it 80-38 entering the fourth quarter.
Both teams scored 15 points in the fourth quarter as Hastings used their big lead to give their reserves some valuable experience. Senior Savana Kascak and freshman Stella Heapy each had three points in the quarter to lead the way, while O'Neill and senior Whitney Bauer had four and three rebounds, respectively, as Hastings won easily, 95-53.
Hastings controlled the glass throughout the game, outrebounding Saint Mary, 57-35, and had a 26-3 advantage in second chance points. They also forced 19 turnovers to score 22 points off of them.
Bryant had 22 points without missing a shot in her eight attempts, along with six rebounds and two steals. Avila had 18 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while Goodon had nearly an identical stat line as last game with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Baker had 10 points and four rebounds off the bench and O'Neill also tied a team-high eight rebounds. Arredondo led the team in assists with six.
