Hardy Pitches Complete Game 1 Shutout; Broncos Rally to Win Game 2
(Hastings, NE) – In a two-game series against Dakota Wesleyan on Friday, the Broncos posted their largest shutout victory since 2018 in game one, winning 16-0, then rallied to win 10-7 in game two. Senior Aleczander Hardy pitched all seven innings in game one, allowing only one hit and striking out seven.

Senior Aleczander Hardy pitched all seven innings in game one, allowing only one hit and striking out seven.
The Broncos put up eight runs in the first inning of game one, scoring eight runs on four hits and capitalizing on three walks, a hit-batter, and a dropped third strike. Junior Samuele Bruno singled in the first run, then senior Tristan Martinez and freshman Diego Martinez each drove in two runs. Hastings went up 6-0 on the dropped third strike and scored the last two runs of the inning on balls fielded on the infield to go up 8-0.
Sophomore Peighton Vargas doubled to lead off the second and came home on a line single from sophomore Cody Haynes. Haynes stole second and took third on an errant throw by the catcher, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-0.
With two outs in the fourth, Hardy singled and scored on an errant pickoff throw by the Tiger pitcher. Junior Jared Delgado was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a batted ball to right field by D. Martinez, as Hastings took a 12-0 lead.
Hastings got their last runs in the fifth, scoring four to go up 16-0, as Bruno and Haynes drove in the first two runs on singles. Delgado then tripled to deep center to bring in Haynes and T. Martinez.
Hardy got the win on the mound in his dominant one-hit complete game shutout. Haynes went 3-3 at the plate with a walk and two RBIs, scoring four runs. Junior Evan Morrison, Bruno, and D. Martinez all had two hits and five different Broncos had two RBIs each.
In game two, a one-out single by Dakota Wesleyan turned into their first run on a base-hit, then back-to-back RBI-doubles followed to put the Tigers up 3-0 in the first inning.
Hastings responded with two of their own in the bottom of the first, as Bruno singled to short with two outs. Vargas roped a single to right and T. Martinez knocked them both in on a two-run RBI triple to cut the lead to one.
Dakota Wesleyan added on a run in the second, making it 4-2. The Tigers' first two batters of the sixth walked and scored on a double to deep left, extending the lead to four at 6-2.
Junior Levi Fletcher began the bottom of the sixth with a double to center and scored on a single by senior Jace Valdez. After a walk to sophomore Tyler Rojas, Morrison and Bruno each hit RBI-singles. Morrison later scored on an RBI groundout by T. Martinez, tying the game at six.
Morrison doubled off the wall to start the eighth. Bruno and Vargas both bunted to third, with both plays resulting in errant throws to score the runner on base. Hastings got a fourth run in the inning on a wild pitch, as senior Aaron Elgersma came in as a courtesy runner to score and go up 10-6. Dakota Wesleyan scored a run in the ninth on a sac fly to make the final score 10-7.
Junior pitcher Ryder Derouin got the final three outs to earn the save. Freshman Cameron Dahlgren got the win, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out three. T. Martinez was 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Fletcher, Morrison, Bruno, and Valdez also recorded multi-hit games and accounted for three RBIs.
