Baseball Scores 11 Runs in Run-Rule Victory

In the bottom of the first with one out, junior Jared Delgado was hit by a pitch. After junior Samuele Bruno followed him up with a single, sophomore Eddie Henchek scored Delgado on an RBI-single to center. Hastings took a 2-0 lead on a sac fly by junior Dylan Wimbs that scored Bruno.
Junior Joshren Mace Magnaye led off the second with a double. A well-placed bunt by junior Nick Deterding allowed senior Ben Richter, who was pinch-running, to score on the play. With runners on first and second with two out, Bruno's triple to center field brought home senior Jace Valdez to make it 4-0.
Nebraska Wesleyan got on the board on a one-out single with two runners on in the third. Hastings got the run back in the fourth on an RBI-single by Delgado, scoring Deterding.
In the fifth, Wimbs led off with a single and stole second. A dropped third strike put runners on the corners, then after a walk loaded the bases, Mace Magnaye drove in two with a base hit to right. Hastings loaded the bases again later in the inning and Bruno drove in all three runners with a double to left, making it 10-1.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Valdez got on with a single. Two pitches later, Delgado skyed a ball over the centerfielder, ending the game via run-rule with an RBI-triple, winning 11-1.
Out of the 14 hits, Bruno led the way, going 3-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Valdez, Delgado, Searcy, and Mace Magnaye all recorded two hits. Junior Carmen Severino began the day on the mound, pitching three innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Junior Devin Otto got the win with three scoreless innings in relief, allowing only two hits and striking out one. Senior Jake Poris pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out two.
Up next, Hastings will have a four-game series at Northwestern on Mar. 27-28, beginning with a Friday doubleheader at 2:30 and 5:30pm.
