(Forest City, IA) – In the first two games of the four-game series at Waldorf, the Broncos lost 2-1 in game one and 17-5 in game two.
In game one, Hastings took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, as junior Levi Fletcher walked and advanced to third by error, then sophomore Tyler Rojas brought him home on an RBI-single.
Waldorf tied it and took the lead in the fifth. With one out, the Warriors loaded the bases with two walks and a single. They tied the game on a Broncos infield error and took a 2-1 lead on a sac fly to right field.
The Broncos had a baserunner in each of the final two innings, but Waldorf got out of both situations without giving up a run to get the 2-1 win.
Senior Aleczander Hardy pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out five. Senior Spencer Searcey pitched a scoreless sixth inning, allowing two hits and striking out one.
In game two, led off the game with a Rojas single and junior Evan Morrison hit a two-run home run. The sequence repeated itself in the next two batters, with junior Samuele Bruno reaching on a base hit and sophomore Peighton Vargas, who went 3-4 in game two, blasted a two-run home run to go up 4-0.
Waldorf answered back in the bottom half of the first with 11 runs on eight hits and an error, including their last five runs with two outs. They scored on five singles, a double, and a sac fly to take an 11-4 lead.
In the third inning, Searcey and Vargas opened the inning with singles. Junior Dylan Wimbs scored Searcey on an RBI-groundout, making it 11-5.
The Warriors added to their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits and two errors. Waldorf tacked on two runs in the sixth to make the final 17-5.
