(Hastings, NE) – Wrapping up the 2026 regular season, Hastings played game one of a doubleheader against Concordia on Saturday, freshman pitcher Cameron Dahlgren held Concordia to one run in a 3-1 complete game one win. The win guarantees Hastings' first GPAC Tournament appearance since 2021. In game two of the series, which took place on Sunday due to storms, Concordia won 11-0.
Hastings struck first in game one, as sophomore Peighton Vargas singled and senior Tristan Martinez beat out the throw on a bunt. With one out, they advanced to second and third on a balk, and junior Levi Fletcher's infield chopper to third scored pinch-running senior Ben Richter. The throw got away from the first baseman on the play, allowing Martinez to score and Fletcher to advance to third. Senior Chris Faherty drilled a single up the middle to knock in Fletcher to go up 3-0.
The first three Bulldogs reached base safely in the top of the third, but Dahlgren allowed just one run to score on a sac fly, ending the inning with a strikeout looking and a foul out to preserve the 3-1 lead.
With the score at 3-1 entering the final two innings, the Bulldogs had a couple of baserunners with two outs in the sixth, but Dahlgren got Concordia to ground out to Valdez.
In the seventh, the Bulldogs got a one-out single that went to second on a wild pitch. Fletcher made a strong throw across the diamond for the second out and senior Jace Valdez dove for the final out on a sinking line drive, earning the 3-1 Bronco victory.
Dahlgren threw all seven innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits, and striking out five batters. Vargas was 2-3 at the plate on a pair of singles in game one.
In game two of the series, Concordia scored two runs in the first inning, as the first three batters reached to drive in the first run, then added the second run on a sac bunt. The Bulldogs drove in two more runs on a two-run RBI-double in the second inning to go up 4-0.
Three more runs crossed the plate for Concordia in the third, as they capitalized on two hits and a Bronco throwing error to take a 7-0 lead. The lead grew to 11-0 on a couple of runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Up next, Hastings will turn its attention to the GPAC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, Apr. 29, where they will be seeded #8 and play at #1-seed Doane at 3pm.
