Doane Comes Back to Defeat Broncos, Force Elimination Game
(Crete, NE) – Playing #1-seed Doane for the second time in the GPAC Tournament, this time for the chance to go to the GPAC Tournament final on Monday. The Broncos held an early 3-0 lead, but a six-run sixth inning by Doane turned the game around, as the Tigers won 14-5.

Hastings took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, starting the inning with two singles and a walk in the first four batters to load the bases. Senior Jace Valdez knocked in two runs, scoring senior Spencer Searcey and junior Joshren Mace Magnaye on a two-run RBI-single. On the first pitch to junior Jared Delgado, he drilled a double to deep left field, bringing in senior Chris Faherty for the 3-0 advantage.
A one-out double by Doane in the third later turned into a run on a two-out single, then they added another run in the fourth to cut into the lead at 3-2.
Doane's offense took charge in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on six hits in the inning. A single was followed by a home run, then after a walk, Doane hit a double and a sac fly. The Tigers hit three consecutive doubles after that to drive in the rest of their runs in the inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Faherty yanked a solo home run over the right field wall in the seventh, and two batters later, Delgado launched a homer of his own, trimming the deficit to three at 8-5. Doane tacked on six more runs in the eighth, making it a 14-5 final.
Valdez was 3-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Delgado, Faherty, and sophomore Peighton Vargas all had two hits.
Up next, Hastings will face Doane in approximately 30 minutes in an elimination game for the right to go to the GPAC Championship Final.
