Orange City, IA) – The Hastings College Men's Golf team was crowned Team Champion at this week's Siouxland Invitational in Orange City, IA. The Broncos entered the final round in fourth place, just five shots back of the leaders. After being +8 through the first eight holes of play, they were able to rally on the final 10 holes shooting -16 in that stretch.
"We were 11 shots out of the lead with seven holes to play. My assistant coach, Gabe Escalera, and I knew we had to make a run. Making up that much ground in such a short amount of time is very uncommon. We are incredibly proud of the fight and grit we saw the second half of the day today after being a bit discouraged about our performance on day one, despite the incredibly tough weather conditions. The guys earned every bit of it," Head Coach Skyler Good said.
Leading the team was senior Ryker Dunkley, who won the event by shooting a 66 (-5) in the final round, finishing the competition at even par. On the back nine of round three, Dunkley carded six birdies en route to the individual title.
The remaing scores for the guys competing on the Hastings "A" squad included senior Henry Kosmicki, who finished 14th with +9. Senior Nicolas Silva shot +10 to finish 17th. Junior Max Nielsen and sophomore Ryan Brady were tied for 24th at +12, recording the fifth and eighth best scores in round three at -2 and -1, respectively.
The Hastings 'B' squad took 9th place of the 18 teams in the field. Leading the way was sophomore Blake Eddy. Eddy saved his best round for last, shooting a bogey-free 64 (-7) which was the lowest score of the day amongst all competitors. This round marks the lowest single-round score (relative to par) in Hastings College history. The previous record (-5) had been carded 13 times before today.
Rounding out the Bronco individual results included junior Josh Chapman at +12 (24th) and juniors Trevor Seeley and Alejandro Prada at +17 (39th).
