Women's Wrestling Battles at Missouri Valley Open

At 207, freshman Alexis Llamas began her day with a late pin over Montreat College, then after a loss to Iowa, she defeated 12th ranked Skyler Bruno of Waldorf in a 4-1 decision, scoring all four of her points in the second period of her first consolation match. Llamas ended her day with a loss to Grand View.
Also competing at 207, senior Taylor Rickley lost her opening match by tech fall to Colorado Mesa, but followed that up with a quick pin over Albion College in her first consolation match. In her next match, she defeated Montreat College by four at the 3:59 mark. She then faced off against #4 Hayeni Costa of Lindsey Wilson and had a 2-0 lead after one period, but ended up losing on a 4-2 decision.
Senior Lisa Hoeflich won her first match of the day at 138 with a pin at the 4:17 mark after trailing 9-8 before the pin. She lost her next match to #6 Natalia Posada of Oklahoma City in a very close 10-9 decision. Hoeflich responded with a pin less than two minutes in against Oklahoma State in her first consolation match, before losing her next bout by fall.
Sophomore Emma Stice, who wrestled at 145, picked up an 11-0 tech fall victory over Lehigh in her first match. She lost to Iowa in her second bout and concluded her day with a loss to Fort Hays State.
At 180, sophomore Mandy Perez lost her opener to #11 Bailee Nelson of Friends. She responded with a pin over Avila at the 1:36 mark of the match before losing by tech fall to Montreat College.
Freshman Carlie Nelson won a 7-0 decision at 145 over Campbellsville to start her day, then lost by fall to #19 Olivia Swift from Ottawa in the next round and by tech fall #18 Kaitlyn Thorn of Ottawa.
Up next, the Broncos will wrestle Dickinson State in their first home dual of the season on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6pm in Kiewit Gymnasium.
