Women's Wrestling Results From Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open
(Crete, NE) – The women’s wrestling team traveled to compete at the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open on Saturday, one day after their defeat of Dickinson State.
(Crete, NE) – The women's wrestling team traveled to compete at the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open on Saturday, one day after their defeat of Dickinson State.
In the elite bracket, sophomore Emma Stice won her first match in the round of 16 after a first round bye at 145, winning by fall over Iowa Western Community College. In the quarterfinals, tied at two against Eastern Oregon, Stice was pinned at the 2:23 mark. Competing next in the consolation bracket, she held a 10-2 lead, then earned a pin at the 4:22 mark over Allison King from University of Saint Mary. In the consolation quarterfinals, she advanced with a 12-2 tech fall win over #16 Alexis Means from Friends. She finished her day with a 6-0 decision loss to Sarina Bertram of Missouri Valley in the consolation semifinals.
Senior Lisa Hoeflich was pinned in her first match at 138 to William Baptist, but responded by pinning Baker two minutes in during her first consolation match. She then picked up a win by fall over Providence at 57-second mark in her next match and defeated Providence's Eleasa Renken in an 8-2 decision to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. Hoeflich concluded her day with a loss by fall to Menlo College.
At 207, freshman Alexis Llamas picked up a 10-0 tech fall victory over #9-ranked Christina Page of Central Methodist in the first round, before losing a 6-0 decision to 19th-ranked Madeleine Stone from Baker. Llamas advanced to her second consolation match with a victory over senior Taylor Rickley in her first consolation match, who had lost her opener to #20 Jessica Rodriguez of Doane by tech fall. Llamas ended her day with a tech fall loss to Wayland Baptist.
Competing in the amateur bracket at 180, sophomore Rhees Hatch pinned Doane 90 seconds into the bout, then she pinned Westcliff in just over a minute in her quarterfinal bout. Hatch reached the finals with another pin, this time over Diesel Janovich of Southeast Community College at 2:41. In the final, she was down 8-0 before losing by fall to Johanna Carrasco from Baker at the 3:51 mark.
Also wrestling at 180, freshman Hayden Marks was tied at six-all in her match against Central Methodist when she advanced due to an injury. She was pinned in her next match by Baker, but responded in the consolation bracket with a pin at the 1:19 mark over Emily Foster from Carl Albert State College, before losing by fall to Westcliff.
Sophomore Aubrey Sharbono needed only 1:05 to pick up a win by fall over Southeast Community College at 138. She followed that up with an 8-2 decision win over Dickinson State before getting pinned late in the semifinals to Wayland Baptist. She then lost in her consolation semifinal match to Carl Albert State College.
At 131, sophomore Ruby Guerrero managed to pin Ottawa just shy of the two-minute mark. She lost her next match, ending her day. Freshman Jayla Ford secured a pin in the closing moments of her first match over Grand View at 160. She was pinned in her next two matches against William Penn and Morningside.
Freshman Cherish Faircloth got a pin 38 seconds into her match at 124 against Missouri Valley, then lost by tech fall to Southeast Community College and Wayland Baptist. At 117, freshman Jessica Farmer lost her first match by fall late in the bout. She picked up a pin over fellow freshman Sarah Spataro, who won her first consolation match by tech fall over Dickinson State after falling to University of Saint Mary. Farmer ended her day losing by fall to Central Methodist in her next match.
