Women's Soccer Erupts For 3 Second Half Goals in NAIA First Round Win
(Siloam Springs, AR) – In the first round of the NAIA National Tournament for a chance to play fifth-seeded John Brown in the next round, Hastings was in a scoreless tie with Friends at the half, then two goals in the second half lifted them to a 2-0 win against the Falcons on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Payton Tanner took the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, missing wide. In the 20th minute, sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor saved a header attempt by the Falcons. Later in the half, senior Megan Lampe missed a shot high and sophomore Sabrina DeHart's shot was saved to keep it a scoreless tie at the half.
In the opening half, both teams attempted three shots and had one shot on goal. It was a physical first half, with 12 fouls between the two teams that had a scoreless tie in their regular season matchup.
In the second half, the free kick from just outside the box by Lampe was headed by freshman Avery Higgins and bounced into the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. Lampe came up big again in the 64th minute, taking a penalty kick and it found the back of the net on the right side to go up 2-0.
Hastings scored their third goal of the half in the 79th minute coming on a lead pass from junior Michaela Fox that gave sophomore Sophia Lee a breakaway shot to take a 3-0 lead. Friends got on the board in the 85th minute to make it a 3-1 final.
Friends took 11 shots in the second half to Hastings' 10, with the Broncos having a 5-4 advantage on shots on goal in the final 45 minutes. Lampe, Lee, sophomore Madison Rhodes, and senior Millie Gell led the team with two shots each in the game. Villasenor saved four out of five opportunities.
Up next, Hastings will face #5-seed John Brown, the host school, on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 6pm in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. The winner will face the winner of the #12-seed Life vs. Tennessee Wesleyan in the Round of 16 on Dec. 1 in Pensacola, FL.
