Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With 7-1 Win

(Fremont, NE) – Hastings will enter the GPAC Tournament with some momentum, after scoring five goals in the first 19 minutes of their game against and eventually winning, 7-1.
Freshman Avery Higgins scored the first two goals, both assisted by sophomore Norah Stewart, coming in the second and eighth minutes of the match. In the 14th minute, senior Megan Lampe kicked one over the Midland defensive front, allowing sophomore Payton Tanner to catch up to it and put it past the Warrior goalkeeper for a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Madison Rhodes continued the scoring a minute later off the feed from Higgins, then junior Payton Henshaw finished the Bronco first half scoring with a goal that was assisted by Higgins. Midland scored in the 32nd minute to make it a 5-1 halftime lead, as they outshot the Warriors 9-5 in the opening half.
Hastings attempted more shots in the second half than in the first half with 11, managing two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. Junior Keyah Hahn got on the board in the 81st minute and sophomore Cora Derby scored the final goal in the 84th minute from freshman Sofia Rabinovitz to make it a 7-1 final.
The Broncos led the game in shots, 20-10, and shots on goal, 12-7. Higgins took a team-high four shots, getting three on goal. Tanner and Rhodes each took two shots, with Rhodes getting both on goal and Tanner having one on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor saved five out of six opportunities in 80 minutes, before freshman Autumn Button, who had one save, came in for the last 10 minutes.
Up next, Hastings, seeded #3, will host #6-seed Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 4th at 7pm.
