Women's Basketball Upended by Concordia
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s basketball team held its own for the better part of the first half against Concordia but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Broncos fell 70-57 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Mariyah Avila hit a three to start the scoring in the second quarter to give Hastings a 17-15 advantage and after Hailey Kleinschmit connected on a layup, Alyssa Baker hit a three of her own as HC now led 20-17 early in the second quarter. Olivia Kuglar then hit a jumper as Hastings now enjoyed its largest lead of the game at five.
The Bulldogs came back to take a brief lead at 23-22 but Carley Leners made a layup to put Hastings back up 24-23 with 4:19 to go in the first half. Then everything began to unravel for Hastings as CUNE ended the half on a 13-0 run to go up 36-24 at the break.
From that point on, Hastings was never able to really recover as the lead grew to as much as 23 before the Bulldogs eventually won by 13.
The Lady Broncos shot 32.7 percent (18-for-55) and just 19 percent (4-for-21) from behind the arc. Concordia shot 38.7 percent (24-for-62) and 34.5 percent (10-for-29) from downtown.
Leners led the way with 13 points on 4-for-10 shooting an was 5-for-6 from the line. Baker finished in double figures with 10 points. Dawson Knode added eight points off the bench while Allison Bauer added seven bench points. Rebounding was dead even at 40 but Hastings committed 22 turnovers to 15 for CUNE.
Hastings will be back in action Thursday Dec. 15 as Briar Cliff comes to town with tipoff set for 6:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
