Women's Basketball Falls to No. 4 Dordt
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s basketball team put a scare into No. 4 Dordt but came up short falling 73-55 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Early in the third quarter when it looked like the Defenders were in a position to put the game away when Janie Schoonhoven connected on a layup to make it 47-34 with 7:50 to go.
Hastings found a spark and began to make a run when Kiernan Paulk scored from the low block. Then Alyssa Baker hit a three from the wing to make it 47-39 with 6:17 to go in the third. After Dordt got a bucket from Karly Gustafson, Mariyah Avila found her way to the rack getting the layup to go to make it 48-41. Carly Leners then made it a five point game with two free throws followed by two free throws by Miriam Miller to make it 48-45 with 4:16 left to go in the third.
But, the Lady Broncos would go cold as Dordt went on a 10-1 run to end the third quarter taking a 58-46 lead into the fourth. From there, Hastings was not able to get any closer losing their eighth straight 73-55.
Avila led the way for Hastings with 15 points but was just 5-for-14 from the floor. Allison Bauer finished with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting while Baker added eight points and Katharine Hamburger and Leners each finished with six.
Hastings shot just 32.2 percent (19-for-59) from the floor while the Defenders shot 47.4 percent (27-for-57). Dordt won the rebounding battle 38-to-36 while turnovers were nearly identical with Dordt committing 13 and HC committing 14.
Hastings is now 8-14 (4-12) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Feb. 1 as Doane comes to town with tipoff set for 6:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
