Omaha, NE – The Hastings College women's basketball teams fourth quarter come back came up short as College of Saint Mary defeated the Lady Broncos 66-63 on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 51-43 early in the fourth quarter, Hastings was in need of some answers on the offensive end. Dawson Knode stepped up and hit a free throw followed by a jumper to make it 51-46 with 8:07 to go in the fourth. Carley Leners then hit a jumper to make it a three point game as CSM called a timeout. It didn't slow HC down as Alyssa Baker got in on the action with a jumper plus the foul as she tied the game 51-51 with the made free throw.
The Lady Broncos then regained the lead for the first time since early in the third when Katharine Hamburger hit a jumper to go up 53-51 with 6:03 left to play. Leners finished the run with another jumper with the Flames finally ending the 10-0 run when Madelyn Turner hit a jumper.
Later in the fourth, Hastings clung to a 58-55 lead when College of Saint Mary tied the game when Clare Lewandowski drained a three with 2:59 left to play. With both teams having empty possessions, Miriam Miller would get fouled but would make 1-of-2 from the line to give HC a slim 59-58 lead with 1:19 go to. CSM then took the lead on an Allisa Schubert bucket but Mariyah Avila would get fouled and she made both free throws to put the Lady Broncos back on top 61-60 with :43 to go.
Hastings had a chance to retake the lead but Miller would turn the ball over and the Flames did just enough at the line to win the game 66-63.
