Prescott, AZ – The Hastings College women's basketball team finished its trip to Arizona by defeating Embry-Riddle 69-54 on Tuesday afternoon and finished the trip 2-0. The Lady Broncos defeated SAGU American Indian College 74-35 on Monday.
It was the Allison Bauer show on Tuesday as she scored the first seven points of the game and 10 of Hastings' first 18 points as HC led 18-13 through one quarter of play.
The Eagles battled back to eventually take a 24-21 lead but it would be the Lady Broncos that would take the one point lead into halftime when Bauer sunk one of her five threes to give Hastings the 27-26 edge at the break.
It would be the midway point of the third quarter when Hastings really began to take control of this game when Miriam Miller hit a three to go up 35-32 with 5:24 to go in the third. The lead extended to eight following an Alyssa Baker free throw and buckets from Carley Leners and Dawson Knode. Hastings eventually grew the lead to 11 following two Sarah Treffer free throws and a Knode layup as HC took a 47-36 lead into the fourth.
Bauer then stayed hot in the fourth hitting an 18 foot jumper followed by a layup on Hastings' next possession. After the Eagles cut the deficit back down to 12, Bauer broke free for another layup to make it 53-39.
With 6:06 remaining, Bauer drained yet another three to make it 57-41 as the Lady Broncos were now in complete control of this one. The lead would grow to as many as 19 as Bauer eclipsed the 30 point margin for the first time in her career with a layup with 1:27 to go in the game. This is the first time a Lady Bronco has scored 30 or more points since Feb. 1, 2020 when Shandra Farmer scored 30 points in the win over Northwestern.
Bauer finished the game with 30 points while shooting 12-for-22 and was 5-for-9 from deep. Katherine Hamburger added 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting with Miller adding nine points on 3-for-6 shooting.
Hastings finished the game shooting 46.4 percent (26-for-56) while holding the Eagles to 34.5 percent (19-for-55). HC shot 47.1 percent (8-for-17) from downtown while ERAU shot just 22.2 percent (4-for-18). Hastings finished the game with 22 assists compared to 11 for the Eagles and also won the rebounding game 39-to-32.
Hastings improves to 8-6 (4-4) on the year and will be back in action Friday Jan. 6 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 5 Dordt with tipoff set for 5:00 pm in Sioux Center, IA.
