Berger's Goal Lifts Broncos to Victory

(Orange City, IA) – Entering the final couple of weeks in the conference regular season, Hastings picked up a big 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal in the 51st minute by sophomore Tim Berger.
Northwestern took the first three shots of the game, then the next five were attempted by the Broncos, including three by Berger and two by junior Juan Rubio. Each team took one more shot in the half, as the game was still scoreless going to the break.
The Broncos took six shots to the Red Raiders' four in the first half, with the Red Raiders having two shots on goal to Hastings' one by Berger. Junior goalkeeper Ethan Watkins kept it tied with two saves.
Berger scored on the first shot attempt in the second half by either team, coming on an unassisted goal in the 51st minute. Northwestern attempted 16 shots in the second half to Hastings' four, but the Bronco defense held strong in the second half, not surrendering a goal.
In the final minute of the match, Northwestern registered three shots but had all three blocked away by Hastings. For the game, the Red Raiders outshot the Broncos, 20-10, with both teams putting four shots on goal.
Individually, Berger, who scored the lone goal in the game, attempted five shots, three of which were on goal. Rubio attempted two shots and junior Fran Beron put the only other Bronco shot on goal. Watkins finished the game with a clean sheet, recording four saves in the process.
