(Sioux City, IA) – The Hastings men's soccer team travelled to Sioux City, IA to take on the Morningside Mustangs on Saturday. The final score was Morningside 2, Hastings 0.
Morningside scored once in each half, with both teams having five corner kicks. In the first half, there was one shot by the Broncos in comparison to the Mustangs' 6. The first half goal came in the 28th minute to put Morningside up 1-0.
In the second half, there were three shots from the Broncos, and four from the Mustangs. Senior Juan Lopez-Arteaga had a header shot that hit the crossbar in the 47th minute. Junior Mauro Figueroa was the only player from Hastings College with a recorded a shot on goal, occurring in the 62nd minute. The Mustangs put the game away with a goal in the 74th minute to go up 2-0.
Lopez-Arteaga led the team with four shot attempts, along with two from Figueroa. Junior goalkeeper Ethan Watkins recorded five saves for the Broncos in the 2-0 loss.
Up next, the men's soccer team will play in Crete, NE against Doane University on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 5pm.
