(Hastings, NE) – Hastings College Athletic Director Chris Clements announced today that Harley Rhoades has been named as the head women's volleyball coach for the Hastings Broncos.
"We are thrilled to welcome Harley to Hastings College and our community. He brings Nebraska volleyball connections and a vision that will be important in helping develop our student-athletes on and off the court," Clements said.
Rhoades comes to Hastings after being an assistant coach at Chadron State since 2019, including four years as a student assistant before being elevated to Assistant Coach following his graduation in 2023.
"I'm really looking forward to building strong relationships with these student-athletes and competing in a high level conference. I'm excited to prepare this team to play quality volleyball and re-establishing Hastings as a competitive program," Rhoades said.
During his time at Chadron State, he coached 10 all-conference players, one conference defensive player-of-the-year, and helped the team reach the conference tournament in 2023 – their first appearance since 2003. As an assistant, Rhoades assisted in organizing recruiting efforts, player development, and scouting. He also directed summer camps on and off campus including general skills camps, team camps, and prospect camps.
In addition to his coaching duties at Chadron State, Rhoades has also served as the head coach of the 16-and-under Chadron Elite Volleyball Club. The club began in 2024 and he led the team to the AAU National Tournament earlier this year. He has also coached camps at the University of Nebraska.
Rhoades graduated from Chadron State with an Education degree in 2023 and earned his masters degree in Sports Leadership in 2024. As a multi-event track runner during his undergrad years, he was a four-year team captain and a three-time all-conference honoree. He was named the athletic department's Clyde Bond Memorial Award recipient for leadership skills, character, and athletic abilities, in 2023.
"Players and fans can expect someone who leads with a lot of positivity and love for the sport. It's very important to me to provide the best student-athlete experience for my players as possible. I expect the team to play with a lot of grit and heart while celebrating each other. Fans can expect our team to play aggressive and fearless!" Rhoades said.
