Men's Basketball Falls in Season-Opener to Eagles

The Eagles opened the game on a 14-0 run, in the first five minutes. Sophomore Maverick Binder broke the scoring drought with a couple of free throws at the 14:34 mark. Central Methodist continued to hold a double-digit lead, eventually going up 20 at 33-13 with 8:38 to go in the first half.
The lead was pushed to 22 with 1:49 to go in the first half, but Hastings closed the first half on a 9-3 run, including a layup by junior Ben Boudreau right before the halftime buzzer, to make it 51-35 at the break.
Central Methodist managed to increase the lead early in the second half, going up 68-45 five minutes in. With the Eagles leading 78-57 with 7:56 remaining, Hastings started cutting into the lead. Seniors Myles Simon and DaRon Hall, as well as Boudreau, scored inside to make it a 78-63 game with 6:49 left.
The Eagles came out of their timeout with a three-point play to get the momentum back on their side. Hastings kept chipping away and was able to get a bit closer at 86-75 with 2:12 left on a pair of free throws by Hall, but that would be the closest it would get from there, as the Eagles won it, 95-78.
Central Methodist shot 54.8 percent from the field to Hastings' 41.3 percent. They also hit six more threes and shot it at a 46.4 percent clip, while outrebounding the Broncos, 46-24. Hastings was able to force 21 turnovers and scored 23 points off of them.
Boudreau led the way for Hastings with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Binder had 15 points and three assists, and Hall came off the bench to score 13 points and grab three rebounds.
Up next, Hastings will return to the hardwood tomorrow to play at host Bellevue, with the game scheduled to start at 4:30pm.
