Hastings came out strong, taking control early with a 12-4 start, led by two consecutive threes by junior Ben Boudreau. Sophomore Maverick Binder answered a Midland three with one of his own, then moments later, junior Owen Wright threw down a two-handed jam through contact. He completed the three-point play at the line and scored two possessions later to go up 10 seven minutes in.
The Broncos continued to find success from deep, getting threes from Binder and senior Christian Pujals to extend the lead to 14 over the next four minutes. Leading 34-22, Pujals hit another three and sophomore Micah Hinrichs extended the lead to 17 at the line with 2:17 to go. Hastings would get two more points each from Pujals and Hinrichs in the final minute and held a 45-30 halftime lead.
