Lancers Come From Behind to Take Down Broncos in Overtime

The Broncos answered an early 4-0 Lancer run with an 8-0 run of their own, getting a three-pointer each from sophomores Maverick Binder and Micah Hinrichs, and a two from senior DaRon Hall. Tied at eight, Hall and Binder hit two more threes to take a 14-8 lead just over five minutes in. Binder, who had 16 first half points, later put Hastings up nine with 11:26 left in the first half.
Mount Marty got back within five at the 7:50 mark of the first half, but a 6-0 Hastings run that was capped by a Hinrichs three, pushed the lead to 11 at 31-20. Binder scored eight points in the final three-and-a-half minutes of the half, including a pair of threes, to put Hastings up 12 at the break, 41-29.
In the second half, Mount Marty scored the first six points to get back in the game. Senior Christian Pujals stopped the run with a three and Binder answered a Lancer three with his fifth triple to go back up 10. Binder's sixth three put them up 11 with 14:14 left, but Mount Marty got back within four with 10:48 to go.
A three from Pujals gave Hastings some brief momentum and a 57-50 lead, but Mount Marty made it a three-point game at the 8:22 mark. Leading by one with 6:36 left, senior Myles Simon finished strong inside through contact to complete the three-point play. Mount Marty took its first lead of the half on a three with 4:17 left and went up three after a Bronco turnover.
After two free throws from Hall and one free throw by the Lancers, junior Ben Boudreau scored and drew the foul on a backdoor play, putting Hastings up one after the free throw with 2:45 left. The Lancers would retake the lead and held a 76-74 advantage with 35 seconds left, then Binder assisted Hall on the game-tying basket. Hastings forced a turnover along the baseline on the final defensive possession with four seconds left, but were unable to get off a shot following their timeout, sending it to overtime tied at 76.
Mount Marty struck first in the extra period from deep. Boudreau briefly tied it with a three of his own, but the Lancers came right back with a three. After a basket from Pujals, Mount Marty went up four with an and-one with 2:18 left. Hastings got within two on one more occasion, but Mount Marty then held a two possession lead the rest of the way, ultimately winning, 91-87.
Hastings held a slight edge in shooting, going 56 percent from the field and 43 percent from three and making 13 of them. Mount Marty shot 54 percent overall and 44 percent from three with eight makes. Hastings also had a 16-13 advantage in turnovers, scoring 16 points off of them. The Lancers had a 40-27 advantage on the glass, outscoring Hastings 24-5 in second-chance points.
Binder ended with 22 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Hall had 21 points, nine assists, and three rebounds. Hinrichs finished with 14 points, while Boudreau had 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Pujals was the leading scorer off the bench with 10 points.
