Hastings took an early 6-4 lead on a pair of threes by senior DaRon Hall and junior Ben Boudreau, then Hall hit a second three at the 16:12 mark to go up two. Leading 13-11, Morningside went on an 11-0 run to take a 22-13 lead. The Broncos responded with a 6-2 run capped by a Hall jumper and senior Cameron Coraggio got Hastings within two midway through the first half.
Morningside pulled ahead to take a 30-22 lead at the 8:15 mark and went up double digits a couple minutes later. Hastings briefly got within nine on a couple of occasions, coming on a three from Boudreau and a jumper from sophomore Micah Hinrichs. The Mustangs led by as much as 15 in the opening half and went to the break holding a 51-39 lead over Hastings.
The Mustangs took a 55-41 just over two minutes into the second half, then Hinrichs hit two threes, pulling the Broncos within 10. Morningside would stretch the lead out after that, going up 66-49 with 14 minutes left and would go up 20 shortly after. The lead would grow to 27 at 77-50 with 10:53 to go.
Caraggio got Hastings within 22 on a three-pointer with 7:38 left, but Morningside would take a 30-point lead with 5:27 to go. Down 99-73, Hastings went on a 9-0 run, getting a couple of threes by senior Christian Pujals. The Broncos were able to cut the deficit down to 12 in the end, making it a 103-91 final.
Morningside shot 63 percent from the field and 57 percent from three. Hastings was 53 percent from the field and 55 percent from three. Hastings outrebounded Morningside 32-26, but the Mustangs turned 15 Bronco turnovers into 30 points.
Boudreau finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Hall had 19 points, six rebounds and four steals. Pujals added 13 points in nine minutes, all in the second half, making 3-6 from deep.
