Men's Basketball Picks Up 18-Point Win Over Waldorf

(Hastings, NE) – Looking to build on their home win on Wednesday, Hastings added a win with a 87-69 win against Waldorf on Saturday afternoon.
Hastings built an early 15-7 lead five minutes in, led by three triples by sophomore Maverick Binder, who had 17 first half points, and two baskets from sophomore Micah Hinrichs. Junior Ben Boudreau grew the lead with a three and senior Myles Simon put them up 11 at the line. Senior DaRon Hall scored five of the next seven Bronco points to put the ahead 27-14 halfway through the period.
Waldorf got back within 11 with 6:52 left in the half, then with Hastings leading 29-17, Boudreau hit from downtown and a steal by freshman Riley Bombeck resulted in two points for Binder with 4:02 left. Later in the half, senior Cameron Coraggio drained a three and Binder got inside for two more to put the Broncos up 39-21 at the half.
Hastings got the first five points of the second half via free throws by Hall and a three-pointer by Hinrichs. After a Warrior bucket, Simon completed a three-point play to go up 47-23 with 16:57 to go. Waldorf responded with a 6-0 to cut the deficit to 18 two minutes later. Coraggio hit four triples shortly after in the span of about three minutes to put Hastings up 63-40 at the midway point of the half.
Boudreau and Bombeck scored the next seven Bronco points and a three by Hall put Hastings up 73-48 with 5:59 to go. Binder hit back-to-back threes and after a Waldorf three, Hall scored to go up 22 with 2:38 left. Binder and senior Christian Pujals put the finishing touches on the win at the foul line, making it a 87-69 final.
For the game Hastings shot 43 percent from the field and made 15-33 from three for 46 percent. Waldorf was 48 percent from the field and 30 percent from deep. Hastings outrebounded Waldorf 39-37 and forced 31 turnovers, scoring 17 points off of them.
Binder led all scorers in points with 25, along with six rebounds and four assists. Hall ended with 18 points, three rebounds and three steals. Caraggio had 12 of his 15 points in the second half and made all five of his three-point attempts. Boudreau also had nine points, six rebounds, and six assists.
