Men's Basketball Defeated by Texas Wesleyan, 80-58

(Fort Worth, TX) – In their final contest before winter break, the men's basketball team wrapped up their Texas trip with a 80-58 loss at Texas Wesleyan.
Texas Wesleyan opened with a 7-0 run to start the game. Senior DaRon Hall got Hastings on the board and sophomore Eli Podoll scored shortly after off the bench, but Texas Wesleyan went up 16-6 with 13:57 left in the half. After a bucket from senior Cameron Coraggio and a three by the Rams, junior Owen Wright finished off an and-one to make it 19-11 with 10:39 left.
Trailing 21-13 after a Coraggio layup, Texas Wesleyan answered with a 7-0 run. Sophomore Predrag Savic scored the next five Bronco points to cut the lead to 12, but Texas Wesleyan scored six of the last seven points of the half to take a 36-19 lead.
The second half began with the first seven points going to the Rams. Hall completed a three-point play to stop the run, making it 43-22. Junior Makhiah Tarver came off the bench and knocked down a couple jumpers, but Texas Wesleyan went up 25 with 13:48 to go. Coraggio, Tarver, and Hall contributed three points each on their ensuing possessions before the Rams scored to go up 20 with 10:28 left.
Texas Wesleyan grew the lead to 24 with seven minutes left and while sophomore Micah Hinrichs scored six quick points closely after, the Rams quickly went back up 25. Down the stretch, Tarver scored a couple of baskets and Coraggio hit from deep, but Rams ultimately won, 80-58
The Rams shot 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from three, as Hastings was 40 percent from the field and 29 percent from three. Texas Wesleyan won the rebounding battle by eight and forced 15 Bronco turnovers. Tarver led Hastings with 15 points off the bench, while Hall had 14 points. Coraggio came off the bench as well to score 11 points and grab five rebounds.
Up next, Hastings will host Friends on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 1pm.
