Northwestern started the game on a 6-0 before junior Ben Boudreau completed a three-point play to cut the lead in half. Boudreau later hit a three to keep Hastings within striking distance, making it 12-9 five minutes in. Trailing 22-15, Boudreau made two free throws and senior DaRon Hall, who had 24 first half points, hit from downtown, getting to within two at 11:21.
With the Red Raiders up 29-20, Hall and senior Christian Pujals scored. Hall later converted an and-one to get within seven with 6:47 left in the half. Northwestern got a double-digit lead at 43-32, and while Hastings was able to score a few times to get back within single digits, Northwestern took a 10-point lead at the half.
In the second half, sophomore Micah Hinrichs started off with a three-pointer, but Northwestern scored the next 11 points, including three triples to take a 60-42 lead with 17:15 remaining. Boudreau and senior Myles Simon scored the next five points for Hastings, then the Red Raiders countered with a 10-4 run. Boudreau, who had 20 of his career-high 29 points in the second half, managed to get Hastings within 14 on a three at the 11:32 mark.
A 7-0 run put Northwestern back up 21, then with 7:22 left, Hall made a three and got a steal on the next defensive play, assisting Boudreau for a layup to make it 84-68. Simon drilled a three to get within 14 with six minutes left, but that would be the closest that Hastings would get. Hastings got the deficit back to 14 at the 2:50 mark on a Boudreau bucket, but Northwestern was too much, winning 104-84.
Northwestern shot 66 percent from the field in the game to Hastings' 47 percent. The Red Raiders made 18 threes at a 55 percent clip and held a 37-28 rebounding advantage. Hall finished with a season-high 29 points - one shy of tying his career high - three assists, and three steals. Boudreau also had 29 points, along with eight assists, and six rebounds. Hinrichs reached double-figures with 14 points and four rebounds.
