Men's Basketball Defeated by Briar Cliff, 90-75

Sophomore Micah Hinrichs responded to a Charger three with back-to-back three-pointers. Junior Ben Boudreau followed him up with a triple to go up 9-2, but Briar Cliff got back within two at the 13:12 mark at 11-9. Hinrichs scored inside and then a steal and finish by Boudreau put Hastings back up six. Still leading at 19-17, Boudreau set up Hinrichs to go up four with 10:40 left in the opening half.
Junior Makhiah Tarver came off the bench to score back-to-back baskets to go up 25-17. Hastings got a couple of baskets from senior Christian Pujals, but Briar Cliff tied the game at 29 with 5:55 left. Boudreau and Hinrichs managed to get the lead back to five, then Briar Cliff closed the half on a 10-3 run to take a 39-37 halftime lead.
Both teams shot 54 percent in the first half and shot a high percentage from three-point range, as Briar Cliff was at 60 percent and Hastings was at 40 percent. Hinrich had a team-high 12 points and Boudreau had nine points at the break.
Briar Cliff began the second half on a 13-3 run in the first four minutes to go up 52-40. Bouderau scored five quick points and senior DaRon Hall later cut the deficit to nine. With 13:37 left and the Broncos down eight, Pujals scored to get them within six. The Chargers countered with a run of their own, scoring 11 of the next 14 points to go up 65-51 with 10 minutes left.
Hall was able to get a couple of baskets to keep the Broncos within striking distance, including a three-point play at the 7:54 mark to get within 11. At 70-59, sophomore Maverick Binder drilled a three to get within single digits. After a stop, Boudreau got to the line and sank both, making it 70-64 with 5:49 remaining.
With under five minutes left and Hastings still down six, Briar Cliff scored five unanswered points to go up 11. The Chargers pushed their lead to 15 with 2:56 left, eventually winning 90-75.
Briar Cliff shot 59 percent from the field and 54 percent from three. Hastings was 50 percent overall and 35 percent from deep. The Chargers held a 27-22 edge on the boards. Boudreau led the way with 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Hall had 18 points and four assists, while Hinrichs had 13 points.
Up next, Hastings will play a couple of games in Texas next week, beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6pm against Huston-Tillotson.
