Men's Track and Field Takes First in 3 Events

Junior Kaiden Merryman won the 60m prelims with a time of 6.79 and won the final as well at 6.78, both 'B-Standard' times. Also in the 60m final, senior Tanner-James Friend finished eighth (7.24).
Senior Deshawn Burks won the 600m by four hundredths of a second at 1:22.11, while sophomore Evan Struss was third at 1:22.95. Also in the 600m, freshman Corey Fields was 10th (1:29.50) and freshman Xavier Roderiques was 12th (1:37.06).
Hastings dominated in the 4x800m relay, as Struss, Burks, sophomore Parker Graves, and senior Tyler Salter had a 'B-Standard' time of 7:52.97 to take first.
Merryman was also second in the 200m with a time of 22.67, while junior Noah Hudnall was sixth at 23.91. In the mile, Graves placed third at 4:28.81 and freshman Henry Yazzie was eighth at 5:00.02. Senior Sam Wise collected third place in the 3000m race walk, finishing with a 'B-Standard' time of 15:42.05.
In the 400m, junior Zane Eggleston took sixth with a time of 52.77 and freshman August Phye took fourth in the 400m with a time of 54.90. Sophomore Jack Scrivner reached the finals of the 60m hurdles, where he took sixth (9.02). In the 800m, freshman Ben Mages placed ninth at 2:05.24 and freshman Jordael Hernandez was 14th at 2:08.68.
In the field events, senior Chance Elwood placed second in the high jump, reaching 5'10.50". In the long jump, Elwood placed fifth (20'10.50") and sophomore Cody Defeo took 10th (19'08.75"). Defeo also finished in seventh place in the triple jump with a top leap of 41'03.25".
In the weight throw, senior David Beadle took seventh in the event with a throw of 52'05.50". Also in the weight throw, freshman Oliver Janik was 25th (42'04.00), junior Titus Glanz was 27nd (39'06.00"), and freshman Ryan Oberg was 29th (35'05.25").
In the shot put, sophomore Jorge Vazquez was 15th (43'06.50"), senior Edward Holly placed 17th (42'05.50"), Oberg was 20th (39'00.50"). Also in the shot put, Janik was 22nd (36'11.50") and Glanz was 21st (38'07.75").
Up next, Hastings will compete at the Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, NE on Friday, Jan. 30, beginning at 2pm.
