Severson Victorious in Decathlon at Jim Dutcher Invite

In the decathlon, junior Rafer Severson won the competition with 6399 points, which ranks fifth in the NAIA and first in the GPAC. He set a new personal record in the competition, keeping him in second place in school history. He won the long jump (6.69m), high jump (1.85m), and pole vault (4.15m). He was second in the 100m (11.34), 400m (50.74), and javelin (46.97m). Severson was also third in the shot put (11.71m), discus (33.38m), and 1500m (4:57.75), as well as fourth in the 110m hurdles (17.99m).
The Hastings 4x800m relay 'A' team won the event in 7:44.89, narrowly missing the 'B'-Standard mark by a couple of seconds, with a team made up of sophomore Parker Graves, sophomore Evan Struss, senior Deshawn Burks, and senior Tyler Salter. The 'B' team of freshmen Thomas Thomas, Ben Mages, Jordael Hernandez, and Xavier Roderiques was ninth in the race at 8:31.68.
Struss finished runner-up in the 400m, crossing the finish line at 49.66, while freshman August Phye was sixth at 51.39, followed by Mages in 11th (54.81) and Thomas in 12th (56.71). Struss was also sixth in the 200m at 22.79.
In the 1500m, Graves finished in second place with a personal best time of 4:00.92, improving upon his seventh place rank in school history. Burks and Salter were close behind in sixth and seventh place at 4:11.21 and 4:15.27, while Hernandez was 11th at 4:23.75.
Freshman Gareth Szabo took second in the 10000m with a time of 36:39.82. Junior Zane Eggleston took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.43.
In the 100m prelims, senior Kellen Robertus was seventh at 11.24 and junior Noah Hudnall was eighth at 11.241 to qualify for the finals. Also in the 100m, senior Tanner-James Friend was ninth (11.248), sophomore Rayne Chavez-Major was 10th (11.49), and sophomore Adrian Lobeda was 12th (11.63). In the 100m final, Robertus took fifth at 11.12 and Hudnall was seventh at 11.22.
In the 110m hurdle prelims, sophomore Jack Scrivner placed seventh with a time of 15.75, then was also seventh in the finals at 16.03. Freshman Corey Fields was 19th in the 800m (2:07.22), along with Roderiques in 23rd (2:13.40).
In the field events, Scrivner was fourth at 6.43m in the long jump and senior Chance Elwood was sixth in the high jump at 1.83m.
Senior Edward Pallotto placed fourth in the javelin with a top mark of 41.90m. Senior David Beadle was 12th in the discus (42.28m), freshman Thomas Mandeville was 14th (42.10m), freshman Ryan Oberg was 17th (40.68), freshman Oliver Janik was 18th (39.77m), and junior Titus Glanz was 20th (38.72m).
In the shot put, Beadle was 14th (13.16), senior Edward Holly was 15th (13.19), Oberg was ninth (11.88m), and Mandeville was 12th (11.52m). In the hammer throw, Beadle was 14th with a top throw of 42.52m, while Janik was 16th at 40.54m, and Glanz was 18th at 35.97m.
