Men's Track and Field Finishes 7th at GPAC Championships
(Fremont, NE) – The Hastings Broncos competed on day two of the GPAC Championships on Saturday, finishing 7th out of 11 teams (52 points). The top eight individuals and top three relays in each event received All-GPAC honors, with Hastings finishing with nine recipients.

Junior Kaiden Merryman won the 100m prelims, crossing the finish line with a 'B'-Standard time of 10.37 to qualify him for the finals. Merryman also won the finals, winning with a time of 10.40.
In the decathlon, junior Rafer Severson finished in second place with 6396 points, three points off his personal best. He was second in the 100m (10.99), long jump (6.52m), 400m (51.79), and high jump (1.85m). He was third in the shot put (11.86m), as well as the discus (34.37m), and pole vault (4.00m). In the other decathlon events, Severson was fourth in the javelin (43.99m), and 1500m (4:53.45), and tenth in the 100m hurdles (17.60).
The men's 4x800m relay team of sophomore Parker Graves, sophomore Evan Struss, senior Deshawn Burks, and senior Tyler Salter finished second with a 'B'-Standard time of 7:40.81, just four hundredths of a second off of their school record time set last year.
In the 800m, Salter took third, less than a second out of first, at 1:54.22. Struss was right behind in fourth at 1:54.26 and Burks was seventh at 1:55.54. Senior Sam Wise placed fourth in the 5000m race walk, finishing with a 'B'-Standard time of 24:38.21.
In the 4x100m relay, Hastings was fourth in the event, as senior Kellen Robertus, freshman Cody Hrdy, junior Noah Hudnall, and Merryman crossed the finish line at 41.77. Hastings was eighth in the 4x400m relay, as freshman August Phye, Burks, Severson, and Struss crossed the finish line at 3:24.68.
Junior Zane Eggleston took fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.90. Sophomore Jack Scrivner took sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.63m and sophomore Cody Defeo was 14th at 6.32m. Defeo later finished ninth in the triple jump at 12.94m.
Graves was 10th in the 1500m at 4:00.26, followed by freshman Thomas Thomas in 21st at 4:14.88. Senior Chance Elwood was 12th in the high jump at 1.78m.
Senior David Beadle was 11th in the discus (41.73m), freshman Oliver Janik was 12th (41.47m), freshman Thomas Mandeville was 15th (40.47m), freshman Ryan Oberg was 16th (40.37), and junior Titus Glanz was 21st (38.58).
Senior Edward Pallotto placed 11th in the javelin with a top mark of 47.14m. In the hammer throw, Beadle was 15th with a top throw of 48.28m.
In the 400m, Phye was 21st with a time of 51.60. In the 10000m, freshman Gareth Szabo was 22nd with a time of 36:49.09.
In the shot put, Oberg was 20th (13.07m), senior Edward Holly was 21st (13.03), and Beadle was 23rd (11.86m).
