Men's Track and Field Places 6th at GPAC; Merryman Wins 60m
(Sioux City, IA) - The men’s track and field team competed in Dordt at the GPAC Indoor Championships on Saturday in Sioux City Iowa, taking fifth out of 11 teams.
(Sioux City, IA) - The men's track and field team competed in Dordt at the GPAC Indoor Championships on Saturday in Sioux City Iowa, taking sixth out of 11 teams.
On the track in the men's 60m dash, junior Kaiden Merryman won it with an A-Standard time of 6.72, earning all-conference honors. Senior Tyler Salter finished second in the 800m with a time of 1:54.66 and teammate Evan Struss fourth (1:55.02) making them both all-conference.
Senior Deshawn Burks was all-conference as well, finishing third in the 600m with a time of 1:23.13. Burks also placed ninth in the 1000m at 2:37.35. Senior Sam Wise finished fourth in the 3000m race walk with a B-Standard time of 15:41.20, making him all-conference.
The men's 4x4 finished seventh with a time of 3:29.04 with junior Zane Eggleston, Salter, freshman August Phye, and Struss. The men's 4x8 finished eighth with a time of 8:37.39 with an all-freshman team of Corey Fields, Ben Mages, Henry Yazzie, and Jordael Hernandez.
In the field events senior David Beadle got fifth in the weight throw with a 'B-Standard' throw of 17.80m to be named all-conference, while senior Chance Elwood was 14th (1.79m). Sophomore Jack Scrivner earned all-conference by finishing eighth in the long jump of 6.62m. Sophomore Cody Defeo was 14th in the long jump (6.25m) and 14th in triple jump (12.80m).
Up next, those who qualified for Nationals will compete at the NAIA Indoor Championships on Mar. 5-7.
