Merryman Races to 5th Place in 60m at Nationals

Junior Kaiden Merryman had the fourth best time in the 60m prelims at 6.71, winning his heat by eight hundredths of a second to become an NAIA All-American. He ran a time of 6.73 in the final to finish fifth.
Competing in the 800m prelims, sophomore Evan Struss placed 12th at 1:54.16, just ahead of senior teammate Tyler Salter, who finished 13th at 1:54.24. The race set a personal-best for Struss, putting him second behind the school-record Salter set last year.
In the 4x800m prelims with a team of Struss, sophomore Parker Graves, senior Deshawn Burks and Salter, Hastings took 15th, running through the finish line at 7:46.83, just 25 hundredths of a second behind their school record time set one year ago.
Senior David Beadle finished 20th in the weight throw with a top throw of 17.55m. Senior Sam Wise took part in the 3000m race walk prelims, placing 21st with a time of 16:48.16.
Hastings will now turn their attention to the outdoor season, beginning with a meet at the Utah Tech Invitational on Mar. 20-21.
