Merryman Wins 100m; Moves into 2nd in School History

Junior Kaiden Merryman dominated the 100m, crossing the finish line with an 'A'-Standard time of 10.28, .35 seconds faster than anyone else. The mark is the second-fastest in school history and tied for the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA this year.
In the 4x100m relay, Hastings won the event, as junior Noah Hudnall, senior Kellen Robertus, senior Tanner-James Friend, and Merryman crossed the finish line at 41.93. Sophomore Jack Scrivner took first in the long jump with a mark of 6.96m and sophomore Cody Defeo was 14th at 6.13m.
The Hastings 4x800m relay team of sophomore Parker Graves, sophomore Evan Struss, senior Deshawn Burks, and senior Tyler Salter raced at the Drake Relays on Thursday, finishing sixth at 7:42.54, narrowly missing the 'B'-Standard mark by about half a second.
In the 400m, freshman August Phye was sixth with a time of 51.43. Robertus finished seventh in the 200m (22.68), Hudnall was ninth (22.76) and Phye was 15th (23.20).
Junior Zane Eggleston took seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.87. Also in the 100m, Robertus was ninth (11.06), Friend was 15th (11.33), Hudnall was (11.44), freshman Cody Hrdy was 20th (11.55), and sophomore Adrian Lobeda was 21st (11.97).
Freshman Thomas Thomas was 12th in the 1500m at 4:19.03, followed by freshman Jordael Hernandez at 13th (4:19.92), freshman Xavier Roderiques at 28th (4:41.71), and freshman Gareth Szabo at 31st (4:47.73). In the 800m, freshman Ben Mages placed 20th at 2:04.92, while freshman Corey Fields took 25th at 2:07.89.
In other field events, senior Edward Pallotto placed fourth in the javelin with a top mark of 46.80m. Senior David Beadle was eighth in the discus (45.27m), freshman Ryan Oberg was 11th (44.17), freshman Oliver Janik was 19th (42.18m), freshman Thomas Mandeville was 22nd (41.72m).
Senior Chance Elwood was 12th in the high jump at 1.74m. In the pole vault, junior Rafer Severson took 12th at 3.98m, along with freshman Alex Reynolds in 19th at 3.23m.
In the shot put, senior Edward Holly was 21st (12.90), Oberg was 22nd (12.89m), and Mandeville was 26th (11.44m). In the hammer throw, Beadle was 24th with a top throw of 44.46m, followed by Holly in 25th (42.98) and Janik in 27th (40.96m).
Up next, Hastings will compete at the GPAC Championships in Fremont, NE on May 1-2, starting at 12pm on Friday.
