Men's Track and Field Wins 4 Events at Bronco Invite

(Hastings, NE) – The men's track and field team hosted their lone home event of the year – the Hastings Bronco Invite – on Saturday, winning four events on the day.
Senior Tyler Salter won the 800m, crossing the finish line at 1:54.75, while senior Deshawn Burks was right behind in second at 1:57.39. Junior Zane Eggleston took first in the 400m hurdles with a winning time of 57.31.
The Hastings 4x100m relay team won the event at 43.24, as junior Rafer Severson, senior Kellen Robertus, sophomore Adrian Lobeda, and junior Kaiden Merryman teamed up for the win. The Hastings 4x400m relay team won the event in 3:28.82, as Severson, Burks, freshman August Phye, and sophomore Evan Struss teamed up for the win.
In the 100m, Merryman was second overall and first in his heat at 10.60. In the 1500m, sophomore Parker Graves finished in second place at 4:12.54. Struss was close behind in fourth at 4:13.87, freshman Thomas Thomas was 10th at 4:24.75, and freshman Gareth Szabo was 21st at 4:41.62.
Senior Sam Wise was fourth in the 5000m race walk, finishing with a 'B'-Standard time of 25:38.11, less than 30 seconds off his school record time he set on Monday. In the 110m hurdles, sophomore Jack Scrivner placed third with a time of 16.13. Severson came in fifth in the 200m with an end time of 22.29.
Also competing in the 100m, Robertus was seventh at 11.14, senior Tanner-James Friend was 12th at 11.26, and Lobeda was 15th at 11.82. Also in the 800m, freshman Ben Mages was eighth (2:07.94), freshman Jordael Hernandez was 10th (2:09.06), and freshman Corey Fields was 12th (2:17.74). In the 400m, Phye took ninth at 52.57.
In the field events, freshman Oliver Janik finished third in the discus (45.85m), closely followed by freshman Ryan Oberg in fourth (44.61) and senior David Beadle in sixth (43.97m). Junior Titus Glanz was 11th (40.04m) and Severson was 15th (34.42m) in the discus. In the javelin, senior Edward Pallotto placed fourth at 46.21m and Severson was seventh at 39.49m.
Sophomore Cody Defeo placed fourth in the triple jump with a top leap of 12.83m. Scrivner was fifth at 6.70m in the long jump and Defeo was 11th in the long jump at 6.17m. Senior Chance Elwood was fifth in the high jump at 1.77m.
In the shot put, senior Edward Holly took eighth (13.19) and Oberg was close behind in ninth (13.10m), along with freshman Thomas Mandeville in 12th (11.71m). Beadle was 12th in the hammer throw at 41.45m, while Holly was 14th (40.34m), and Glanz was 17th (34.91m).
Up next, Hastings will compete at the Jim Dutcher Memorial Invite on Apr. 17-18, beginning at 12pm on Friday.
